Visual Voice turns one this month! Yes, it has been a year since I decided to leave the safety of my previous employment to stake out on my own, and am proud to report Visual Voice has survived its first year.

I would like to send many thanks to clients, colleagues, family and friends that have supported me in this business venture!

I look forward to many years of service and having the opportunity to work with you in the future.

Thank you, Elissa

Would you like to create simple animated graphics like the one above?

I have drafted an overview to how you can using Adobe Photoshop. You may find that is easier than you think. (Don’t be intimidated by the long list of directions. They basically repeat themselves.)

Creating Animated GIFs

  • Adding frames
    • Open the “animation” panel
    • Add frame (icon left of trash can icon)
  • Tweening (fading in and out)
    • Make a second frame
    • Select the first frame. In the layers panel uncheck “propagate Frame 1”
    • Change opacity to 0%
    • Select frames 1 and 2 in the animation’s panel
    • Click on circles icon to add tweening layers
    • Make sure all parameter boxes are checked in the tweening window
    • Adobe Photoshop will create new layers in between the two frames to create a fading effect
  • Tweening (position & layer effects)
    • Make a second frame
    • Select the first frame. In the layers panel uncheck “propagate frame 1”
    • Change the color overlay in frame 2 and move object outside the frame
    • Select frames 1 and 2 in the animation’s panel
    • Click on circles icon to add tweening layers
    • Make sure all parameter boxes are checked in the tweening window
  • Save your document
    • Save for web and devices (has to be GIF)
    • Save as images only
    • Post to your website or send as an email attachment

What motivated you to start Visual Voice?

I saw a need for a more comprehensive approach to presenting information. Many projects employ information analysts and designers, but a gap exists between the two.  With a background as both a designer and “data geek,” I can help organizations bridge that gap to effectively communicate complex information through interesting visual mediums.

How would using “my visual voice” benefit my organization?

Using your visual voice will allow you to more effectively engage your target audience, frame your message and develop your identity.  You will also be able to quickly clarify complex information, make better decisions and provide strong evidence to support your message.

Who is your typical client?

Visual Voice has worked with organizations ranging from nonprofits and small businesses to government agencies. We help anyone who is looking to more effectively communicate and evaluate complex information.

What services do you offer?

Visual Voice will work with you on:

  1. Content Editing
  2. Data Analysis (We’re not afraid of data!)
  3. Design.

On any given project, we can work with you in all of three of these areas or just one. We enjoy helping organizations analyze their data or help them find data to support their message. Visual Voice creates original, engaging designs that help you present information for specific projects or as templates for future projects.

What types of projects could you help me with?

We specialize in annual reports; brochures; data dashboards; information graphics; and mapping.

Do you just do print materials or can you help us create interactive graphics for our website?

Yes, we can also work with you to create interactive maps and graphics to be used online.

What is your typical project process?

If you have a particular project in mind or need some help refining your ideas, we would first setup a time to discuss your needs and expected outcomes for the project. After we have discussed your project ideas, we will put together a custom proposal based on your input and provide various options that work for your budget.  Once you decide on the proposal option that best meets your needs, we move forward to the create your product.

Do you offer any resources to help me develop my own “visual voice”?

On the Visual Voice website you can find a number of resources to provide you with how-to information, real life examples and inspiration. You can also subscribe to our blog to receive weekly tips and updates in your inbox or through your RSS feed.

Visual Voice also offers consultations to develop your visual voice skills within your organization. We can evaluate your previous work or provide suggestions to help you implement a successful design for an upcoming project.
